Standing on a rise above the Niagara River is St. Saviour, The Brock Memorial Anglican Church. The church congregation began with United Empire Loyalists before 1788, worshipping wherever they could until their first church was built in 1818. After lightning destroyed that building in 1839, parishioners spent forty years gathering in borrowed spaces before completing the graceful stone church that stands today. Dedicated in 1879 to Major General Sir Isaac Brock’s memory, St. Saviour's Church remains a symbol of resilience and remembrance. Its front door faces directly across the river — once toward the nation whose soldiers Major General Brock fought during the War of 1812, and now our neighbour with whom we continue striving for peace.

We also remember with gratitude the many Indigenous nations who stood as allies during the War of 1812, fighting alongside Major-General Sir Isaac Brock in defense of this region. Their courage, leadership, and sacrifice are woven into the history of Niagara and remain an essential part of the story we carry forward.
May this acknowledgment deepen our commitment to truth, reconciliation, and respectful relationship with all Indigenous peoples who continue to live, work, and gather on this land.
